Parenthood is filled with unique and precious moments. Today, I had the pleasure of sharing a special first with my baby Barney that I’ll cherish forever.
Bonding Challenges
Spending quality time with Barney isn’t always easy. Physically lifting him into bed has been a challenge, and laying on my side comfortably is tough. With a night nurse at home, while much appreciated, there’s a slight loss of our personal time and intimacy.
A Tired but Special Day
Today was different. Despite being exhausted, I wanted to connect with Barney. I placed him on his back on the sofa and lay beside him. As I drifted in and out of sleep, he played with the drawstrings of my sweatshirt. It was a simple, heartwarming moment that felt so special—just the two of us, without our usual routine or assistance.
Co-sleeping can be risky due to the possibility of rolling over onto the baby. Rest assured, I stayed in a light sleep, fully aware of Barney’s presence next to me. Normally, he sleeps safely in his crib, and this was a controlled moment.
Looking Forward
This experience made me long for more intimate moments with Barney. It’s these little connections that deepen the parent-child bond. Today’s quiet time with Barney reminded me of that. I look forward to experiencing more of these treasured firsts.
Good night to all parents out there—may you find your own special moments with your little ones.
I’m currently seeking a kidney donor and I’m working with an organization called DOVE to help facilitate the experience.
