I often get asked how I shower with a port catheter. I bought a catheter protector from JJ Care on Amazon, which provides a barrier to protect my chest, but it isn’t completely water proof. I use a handheld shower because it helps me wash my arms and legs without spraying the rest of my body. When I need to wash my hair, I cover my neck and chest with a towel. After my “shower”, I use a washcloth to sponge dry my chest and arm. It takes a bit of practice, but I found something that works for me.
I’m currently seeking a kidney donor and I’m working with an organization called DOVE to help facilitate the experience.
