Hi, everyone! I wanted to share an update on my transplant journey. This post was meant to go out last night, but I had a major migraine after dialysis and decided to get some rest instead.

The Big Transplant Team Meeting

Yesterday, I had a significant meeting with my transplant team, which lasted a full four hours. The session included various professionals: doctors, nurses, social workers, nutritionists, and others.

What I Learned

Although I had prior knowledge from meeting my transplant surgeon earlier, this session delved deeper into the specifics of what to expect. The meeting helped cement my understanding of the process and added more layers of detail to what I already knew. It’s amazing how much there is to learn and consider, from the medical aspects to lifestyle adjustments post-transplant.

Family Support

One of the highlights of the meeting was having my family, including Ian, by my side. Their presence was invaluable in helping me absorb all the information. Emotional and psychological support plays a crucial role in this journey, and having loved ones to lean on makes a world of difference. They were able to take notes, ask questions, and offer moral support, making the information overload more manageable.

Next Steps

In the coming days, I plan to share more insights about the transplant process, including the specifics of the donation process, what potential donors should know, and how recipients can best prepare. This journey is as much about sharing knowledge as it is about personal experience, and I hope these upcoming posts will be helpful to anyone navigating through similar situations.

Gratitude

I also want to express my deep gratitude for all the text messages and check-ins from friends and family. Your support is incredibly meaningful to me, especially during the tough moments like last night. Knowing that so many people care about my well-being adds a positive outlook and helps me push through challenging times.

Last night might have been rough, but today, I’m feeling much better and more optimistic. Thank you all for your continuous support and love. Stay tuned for more updates and insights as I continue to navigate this transplant journey. Sending love your way!

I’m currently seeking a kidney donor and I’m working with an organization called DOVE to help facilitate the experience.
