My Mind v. My Body

Memorial Day weekend is a time for relaxation and reflection with loved ones. This year, my family and I retreated to the serene Massanutten ski resort, a place known for its breathtaking views and myriad recreational activities. My trip was a journey in balancing ambitious plans and the unexpected lesson of honoring my physical limits.

My Mountain Getaway

Ian and I decided to take a weekend to rejuvenate at Massanutten Resort. We packed our baby gear, excited to explore trails, visit the rec center, and fully enjoy the outdoor activities.

Accompanied by our baby and our baby nurse, this vacation marked one of our first family trips. The joy of introducing our little one to new environments was beyond words. Soon, we found ourselves surrounded by mountain beauty and a sense of peace.

The Reality Check

As the weekend unfolded, my physical capabilities didn’t match my ambitions. Instead of taking hikes and workouts, we enjoyed simpler pleasures—listening to live music and taking naps.

Learning to Respect My Body

This experience reminded me to respect and listen to my body. While my mind buzzed with plans, my body sought rest. Sometimes, the greatest adventures are found in quiet moments.

Despite the shift in plans, the weekend was fulfilling. We discovered joy rooted in simplicity—soaking in live music and creating rich, unhurried memories. The sight of our baby enjoying the environment was a highlight.

There is profound comfort in embracing little moments. Whether it was dancing with our baby, taking in the views, or an unexpected nap, these experiences offered a sense of fulfillment.

Gratitude for the Present Moment

Returning home, I felt gratitude for the weekend. It wasn’t as envisioned, but it was perfect. I am reminded to respect our bodies, cherish small moments, and make room for rest. Thank you for being part of our journey.

I’m currently seeking a kidney donor and I’m working with an organization called DOVE to help facilitate the experience.
